New Season, New Look: A Guide to Lash Treatments for the Ultimate Makeover

If you’ve decided it’s time to treat yourself to a fresh new look as the cooler days of autumn kick in, what better than a lash treatment to give you a satisfying lift and confidence boost?

At Rawr Beauty in Rathbone Square, a retail haven nestled in London’s West End, there’s a team of beauty experts waiting to give you the lash makeover of your dreams.

Not sure which lash treatment will work best for you? Read on for our ultimate guide to lash treatments from Rawr Beauty’s very own specialist and very much in-demand lash technician.

Lash lifts

If you’ve got naturally straight lashes, or lashes that tend to fall downwards, a lash lift could be the right treatment for you.

What is a lash lift?

A lash lift involves lifting the lashes and curling them into a more natural shape so that your eyes appear more open.

The treatment uses three different solutions to alter the shape of the natural lashes and lift them from the root. The results are instant, so you get to see the full length of your lashes straight away following the treatment.

Lash lifts can last up to six weeks, although depending on your natural lash cycle, it may be longer.

What happens during a lash lift?

During a lash lift, the upper lashes are gently placed upwards onto a silicone wand resting on the eyelid. Using a lash lift tool, the lash technician will take great care to make sure your natural lashes are positioned perfectly on the wand to create just the right shape and lift.

Two solutions are then applied. The first is a lifting solution which penetrates the cortex of the hair, preparing it for the next step. The second is a fixing solution. This one stimulates the process of oxidisation, reforming broken bonds and setting the lashes into the new position.

Finally, a nourishing solution is applied to the lashes to moisturise them and keep them strong and healthy.

What aftercare is required following a lash lift?

The aftercare required after a lash lift is minimal. You’ll be advised to keep your lashes dry and to avoid any excessive heat or steam for the first 24 hours. You’ll also be encouraged not to rub your eyes or apply eye makeup for the same period.

Once the 24 hours are up, you can continue as normal, applying mascara if you wish.

All you need to do between appointments is apply a conditioning serum to help keep the lashes healthy.

Why should I go for a lash lift?

A lash lift is a great way to accentuate the natural lashes. It’s perfect if your lashes are naturally medium to long, and ideal if you have sensitive eyes and aren’t able to tolerate other types of lash treatments, or wear mascara.

Lash lifts are low maintenance, so you won’t need fortnightly infills as you would with lash extensions.

How much does a lash lift cost?

At Rawr Beauty in Rathbone Square, a lash lift with a tint is £65, and without a tint is £58. The treatment is great value for money, lasting on average six weeks or more.

Lash extensions

Whilst a lash lift is ideal for a natural look, and will enhance your natural eyelashes, lash extensions are the go-to treatment for those who prefer a darker lash line and want to achieve more impact.

Lash extensions add thickness to natural lashes, resulting in a fuller finish. There is no need to wear mascara after having extensions applied, so it’s the ultimate ‘get up and go’ treatment.

With lash extensions, you’ll need to have them infilled around every two weeks, so you should be prepared for more maintenance than with a lash lift.

Lash tints

A lash tint is the perfect addition to a lash lift. It’s usually carried out at the end of the treatment, as the solutions used in the lash lift may lighten the lashes and alter the effects.

Because natural lashes tend to be ever-so-slightly lighter towards the ends, a tint can have the effect of adding length, making the lashes look fuller and thicker, without the need for extensions and the added maintenance that goes with them.

A blue/black tint is popular, as this gives the impression of a coat of mascara. Natural brown is also a good choice, especially if you are keen to achieve a more subtle lash enhancement.
